Pharmacology: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet s a nonsystemic cytoprotective agent without inhibiting gastric acid secretion or substantially neutralizing intraluminal acid.
Site protective action: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet forms a protective layer over ulcerated and non-ulcerated mucosa (more specific on ulcer).
Adsorption: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet adsorbs both pepsin and bile acid.
Secretory effect: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet stimulates bicarbonate and mucous secretion by the gastric mucosa.
Influence on endogenous mediators: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet stimulates the synthesis and release of prostaglandin and prostacyclin.
Cellular effects: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet prevents damage to the proliferative zone by necrotizing agents and Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet maintains the structural and functional preservation of gastric microvasculature.
Other effects: Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet decreases parietal cell sensitivity.
Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet is indicated for treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastritis, reflux esophagitis, concomitantly used with NSAIDs therapy, prophylaxis of stress ulcer and duodenal ulcer recurrence, treatment and prophylaxis of mucositis caused by radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
Tablet/Chewable Tablet: The usual dosage is 2 g twice daily on an empty stomach in the morning and before retiring or 1 g four times daily on an empty stomach before meals and at bedtime.
For prevention of ulcer recurrence the recommend dosage is 1 g twice daily on an empty stomach in the morning and before retiring.
Suspension: Adult and Children above 6 years old: 2 teaspoonful or sachet, four times daily on an empty stomach before meals and at bed time.
Prophylaxis of ulcer recurrence: 1 teaspoonful or 1 sachet, twice daily, on an empty stomach in the morning and at bed time.
Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet is particularly well tolerated. Ulcefate/Ulcefate Chewable Tablet is minimally absorbed and may be used in pregnant women and nursing mother only if clearly needed.
May cause nausea if taken on an empty stomach.
